Masterclass with Focus… – Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Producer

How to pitch record executives & feedback on demo’s

How to get the attention of someone so legendary as Dr. Dre? What do you need to make it in today’s music industry? 2 times Grammy winner Focus… will give his answers to those questions during his masterclass about music production in hip-hop!

This masterclass takes place on Saturday September 30rd from 14h until 15h30 and also includes feedback on some student projects and a Q&A. Initially it’s for our students, but as an exception we are accepting 5 external people to join this masterclass. So if you are interested in being there, explain why in an email to Milou Derksen: milou.derksen@abbeyroadinstitute.com before September 20th. By September 22nd, you will get a response if you got selected to attend the masterclass.

About Focus…

Bernard Edwards Jr., better known as Focus…, is an Atlanta based 2 time Grammy award winning record producer who first rose to fame when signed to Dr. Dre’s label Aftermath Entertainment as a producer in 2001. Over the course of his career, he has produced platinum and gold selling records for artist including Dr. Dre, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Mac Dre, Pink, N Sync, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes, Bishop Lamont, Tony Yayo, Stat Quo, The Outlawz, The Game, Jay Rock and many more.

Focus…’ impressive production skills were first recognized by the legendary Dr. Dre. Dre, who admired the creative sound and ingenuity of Focus…’ genius musical ability, decided to sign him as a staff producer for Aftermath Entertainment. Focus…’ contribution to Aftermath began in 2001 and continues to present day as he is a major contributor on the recent release of the highly anticipated album ‘Compton’.

The musical talent of Focus… is not a coincidence. He is the son of Bernard Edwards, legendary bassist and founding member of the hit-making 70’s disco band CHIC. Focus… credits his father with his natural ability to create music. His intrinsic aptitude for producing great music was apparent as a young child. The foundation of his musical leanings can be attributed to frequent studio sessions with his father and watching the rise and success of the renowned band CHIC.
